the subject is usually either dead or in obvious despair, and the colors are more muted/desaturated (to make the red blood really pop):

the blood is red and drippy, spraying and spilling everywhere and often can be blackish where it pools (there’s tons of tutorials on how to draw blood/similar liquids). Realistic gore is messier, scarier, uglier, and more anatomically correct. Now, the main difference between realistic gore and candy gore is coloration, consistency, and mood. Now, if you’re drawing something like amputation, you can usually get away with just drawing a circle (the bone) within another circle (the arm/leg) and adding a few blobs (the muscle) like this:īut if you’re going for realism, diagrams like this can be useful: (the ribcage in this particular piece isn’t very good, because i was using a pic of organs without a ribcage as ref and drawing the ribs from memory, but you get the idea) This gives me a good idea of where the various organs are in relation to each other, and then i can simplify it from there until i get something like this:

for example, if i’m drawing a gutspill/open chest cavity/open abdominal cavity, i’ll look at something like this for reference: Well, for reference i mostly try to look up medical diagrams of whatever… parts i’m trying to draw.

Pastel gore
